Sepsis is a Patient Safety Crisis: Two Free Events You Must Attend

Sepsis causes 1 out of every 5 deaths. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General urges us to take action against sepsis:

“The world must urgently step up efforts to improve data about sepsis so all countries can detect and treat this terrible condition in time. This means strengthening health information systems and ensuring access to rapid diagnostic tools, and quality care including safe and affordable medicines and vaccines.”

5th World Sepsis Congress: Sepsis Research and Innovations (April 8-9, 2025)

On April 8-9, 2025, the 5th World Sepsis Congress on Sepsis Research and Innovations. Hosted by the Global Sepsis Alliance, this free online conference features over 90 expert speakers and moderators representing the global opinion leaders and researchers on sepsis and global health, as well as international health partners from 6 geographic regions:

  • The congress is designed for healthcare workers, healthcare providers and funders, healthcare authorities, policymakers, patient families, survivors, and industry professionals.
  • Throughout 15 distinctive sessions, this Congress will cover the latest research on personalized medicine and innovative therapies to global strategies for infection prevention to sepsis care delivery, and how AI can be leveraged to diagnose sepsis early. Special attention will be given to the impact of climate change on infectious diseases, the rising threat of AMR (antimicrobial resistance), and how combating sepsis aligns with SDGs’ (sustainable development goals) commitment to health equity and universal access to care. Two panel discussions will make the voices of patients heard and showcase lessons from countries that are reducing sepsis mortality through system change.

Sepsis and Antimicrobial Resistance (April 30, 2025)

Sepsis and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are intrinsically linked – rapid diagnosis and treatment of sepsis with appropriate antibiotics are crucial to saving the lives of patients with sepsis; however, the rise of AMR necessitates strategies to optimize antimicrobial use and prevent the spread of resistant strains of microorganisms.

On April 30, 2025, the US Sepsis Alliance is hosting a free conference on antimicrobial resistance. Attendees will discover inspiration, ideas, and applicable technologies for both managing sepsis and mitigating the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
