Culture of Weaning [1 CME/CRCE Credit]

This course educates learners on Culture of Weaning which is a critical skill to be learned that enables patients to be cared for and weaned off of mechanical ventilation. It is one of seven courses that comprise Enhanced Respiratory Care Certification.

Learning objectives:

  • Define the Weaning Culture
  • How to Transition from “patient care” to “people care”
    – Personalize the care to create a trusting environment for the weaning processes
    – Customize the care to optimize weaning opportunities
  • How to Transform the care approach from “reactive” to “proactive”
    – Develop the weaning plan with input from the resident, resident’s family and friends, the rehabilitative staff, the nursing staff, the respiratory staff, and the medical providers
    – Utilize technology, such as humidified high flow therapy and mechanical exsufflation, to promote weaning and to prevent setbacks
