Kulana Malama Joins Elite Healthcare Facilities Achieving Patient Safety and Quality of Patient Care

Kulana Malama first pediatric facility to meet the new standard of care promoted by the Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety (PPAHS):

Kulana Malama is among the first 10 in the U.S. to meet the criteria.
PPAHS expects 10 more facilities to adopt the standard in the first half of 2024.

The Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety (PPAHS) is pleased to announce that Kulana Malama in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, is the first pediatric healthcare facility in the United States to achieve Enhanced Respiratory Care accreditation.

“Our Enhanced Respiratory Care accreditation is a testament to our commitment to providing the highest quality for our patients,” said Wendell Inouye, RRT-NPS (Director, Respiratory Care Services at Kulana Malama). “Kulana Malama is Hawaii’s only stand-alone center devoted to helping children with complex medical needs. Our goal is to improve the quality of life of every child who comes to our facility.”

High-Value Care for Long-Term Ventilatory Care Patients

Achieving High-Value Care Through the Enhanced Respiratory Care Program

At the recent Institute for Healthcare Improve Forum on December 10–13, 2023, in Orlando, FL, the Physician-Patient Alliance for Health Safety was invited to present on our Enhanced Respiratory Care program.

The Enhanced Respiratory Care program is based on standards published by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), which achieved liberation rates of 65%. The Enhanced Respiratory Care Program is endorsed and supported by the AARC.

Generations at Regency Joins Elite Healthcare Facilities Achieving Improved Patient Safety and Quality of Patient Care

The Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety (PPAHS) is pleased to announce that Generations at Regency in Niles, Illinois, is one of the first healthcare facilities in Illinois and in the mid-west to achieve Enhanced Respiratory Care Accreditation.

Auburn Village Joins Top 1% of Healthcare Facilities Achieving Improved Patient Safety and Quality of Patient Care

When patients are unable to breathe sufficiently on their own, mechanical ventilation may be required. Mechanical ventilation is the most common intervention used in patients admitted to ICUs (Intensive Care Units). Mechanical intervention saves lives in acute cases, but numerous studies document how prolonged mechanical ventilation can lead to a host of negative physical, financial, and mental outcomes for patients.

Enhanced Respiratory Care Accredited Facilities: A September 1, 2023 Update

On April 20, 2023, we announced that accreditation for healthcare facilities for Enhanced Respiratory Care was available.

Although just launched in April 2023, there are now about 20 healthcare facilities that are accredited, are in quality reviews, or are in discussions about Enhanced Respiratory Care Accreditation. When we were planning for the launch of the Enhanced Respiratory Care Accreditation program, the pessimist in me said we would not get any applications at all.

However, even before we launched the program on April 20, 2023, Carl Hinkson, MS, RRT-NPS, ACCS, FAARC (President, American Association for Respiratory Care) had sent us this letter announcing support and endorsement of our Enhanced Respiratory Care program.
